Residents and Fellows can contribute pretax dollars to a retirement plan as soon as they are hired. They are eligible for matching funds beginning January 1, or July 1 after their date of hire AND they have been paid for 1,000 hours.

Tuition Reimbursement

Residents/Fellows assistance benefit: up to $5,000/academic year tuition (University of Pittsburgh); dependent children first baccalaureate degree at 50% up to $6,000 max/year (full-time student); spouse (full- or part-time student) up to $2,000 max/year.

GME Sponsored Activities

GME organizes events throughout the year to recruit and retain a diverse body of medical professionals within the UPMC Medical Education community. The UPMC Medical Education Office also organizes social events such as zoo day and social hours to present residents/fellows with opportunities to network with peers.

Resident and Fellows Assistance Program (RFAP)

Services include coaching and counseling in person or by phone (psychiatric consults/med management available), referrals for child care and elder care, help with daily living issues, an online program for stress and anxiety, 24/7 phone support if you need immediate help, and referrals to community resources.

First Job

A unique service offered during the last two years of training. Services include developing your curriculum vitae, networking, how to handle recruiters, employment agreements, and preparing for interviews (questions to ask and answer).

Resident and Fellow Test Taking Preparation Program

This program develops the skills test takers need to succeed. Passing the USMLE , In-Practice, In-Service, and Board Certification exams is a necessary component of medicine and essential to practice.
